before I started I made some sketches in the sketchbook within the different themes I set.  some of them have some potential, as an afterthought I probably should have used a grid, but o well.

Study task - 3 & 4 Kerning & ligatures

   Lifestyle magazine

The kerning with this typeface is focused on space and an airy feel. It is made to be more exclusive and expensive. With a lager kerning space you can create a more sophisticated feel over the word. All of the letters are on the same line as to create order.

   Condom company

This word is made in a compact matter as it shows that the condom would not break. We have also put the ‘T’intoo the ‘U’ to insinuate the use of the condom. With the spacing, you can see that it is trustworthy with the fact that it has no space, which makes the condoms safer. The 'e' is also a reference to something stopping, which is the task of the condom. 

    Insurance company

With this one we did a basic kerning as it is supposed to be trustworthy and recognizable. With the amount of space on this one there are an respectable distance between the letter as to show that they are not intrusive, but know what they are doing.

    Independent food festival

As an independent food festival, they want to attract a more alternative crowd, and the e high up it creates a bit of an edge. It is slightly playful, and it is still a professional vibe but a more of a younger professional. This is aimed at someone in their 20's to 30’s. They want to be taken seriously but also want an interesting working environment.

     Children’s nursery

This one is purely playful, it is reminiscent of building blocks and since it is aimed at a young audience it could work. We have made it more spacious to cater to the parents too as the kids are their responsibility.

With our work with the ligatures, we played around with the letter first to get a starting point. this way we got a clear idea of how the letters could be combined. when we started working on the computer we took some of our physical ideas and translated them and tweaked them to get the desired end product. We have combined all of the letters of out phrase into this one symbol. we based it around the exclamation mark as "STFU" is not something you say politely.
