Memory said that she would be down. she usually focuses on wedding photography but she wanted to have a fun side project.
we are going to meet up on Tuesday and talk about it.
In the end and some discussion with my friends, I settled for Huldra that way I can draw inspiration from the illustrations created in some of the first time in 1870 Norske Folke- og Huldre-Eventyr i Udvalg ved P. Chr. Asbjørnsen. The type is branchy but similar to blackletter. The simple two-tone illustrations could inspire the colour choices, the yellow tone would possibly be comfortable for reading. The blue color is said to inspire and calm people down, the dark but grey shade would stand out from all of the orange and bright blue reading apps.
I started working on the logo for Huldra. as I wanted to borrow inspiration from older books so I based it on this dickens book I found. The type is bold and as the main focus as the hierarchy showcases Edwin Drood title.
The initial change was simply to change the kerning. the outcome conveys a busy message that would not work for the idea to inspire younger people to read.
I also attempted to do for more of a structured look to it. I applied the 45-degree grid, the end result is quite sterile and slightly ominous. the stick rules do not work and I feel like the 45 grid is a bit overdone.
I tested to see how the typeface would look like an outline, with the tailored arch slant. I do like it outlined but it might be a bit busy for a phone screen.
As the whole name in the gothic type is seeming to be too much I tried to supplement the rest of the ord wit a serif typeface of Bodoni. The arches of the bellies and endings of the stems seem perfect but it seems a bit predictable and the uneven width is not something that you would desire in a logo. especially since the main glyph is so detailed.
I worked to alter it and retrace over the type so that is would be a bit more even in terms of the width. I also added a bit more of an arch to the bases, to reference the main glyph. The two above are the original typeface.
as to make the H more my own I applied the same 45-degree grid to it. I straightened out all of the arches and made the glyph both more modern and less newspaper like.
my main issue with this is the slant as it looks like a wonky sims 2 eyebrow(not a compliment) I have therefore decided to scrap that part of it and lean it all up a bit.
as the all gothic typeface was too busy I decided to attempt to combine Incolota with this typeface as it is a typeface that is very popular in coding with it is an interesting combination with the oldest typeface to one of the more modern genres of typefaces.
In order to try to mesh them together, I changed the serif to a 45-degree one as it would follow the same grid as the main type. I also evened out the with of the arches to taper slightly less as it drew some focus from the name itself.
the a looked a bit out of place to I attempted to move it to be on a 45-degree angle but that does not look good. what I did like was that I mimicked the arch from the belly of the an into the arch of the r.
since that was a bust I decided to slant the end of the arch on both the r and a so they fit together. I am considering to leave the "a" out as Huldra can also be referenced as Hulder when it is plural.
doing that made the logo look more cohesive and it workes nicely not I think I also attempted to cut off the arch of the r on a straight angle so I might go with that to leave the logo with a more constant feel so that it does not seem like it fades out. I also shortened the serifs on the u and r as they felt a bit long, and the stubby ones flow a bit better. Since I'm the most proficient in animation out of my group I volunteered to make the animation. We decided to animate as it would easi...
