Joik is a traditional Sami style of singing. It was previously in the center of Sami religion. The style of singing is recognizable with the sound grinding and rhythm and similar styles are to be found in indigenous tribes in Indian cultures in North America.

With this typeface, there has been a focus on creating a rhythm within the typeface that would match the levels in Joik. Since Joik is fairly monotone in a way there was no reason as to create a drastic design, there are not that many different levels within the music as it is usually about communicating with nature and the people. The typeface in itself is a bold sans serif because Ellisif Wessel was confident about her opinions. She also knew what she believed and helped as much as she could.
