After going through my ideas, Ben came up with an idea to combine the college, origami, and American inspired flag ideas. This way the design is interesting as a whole and not as ridged. When unfolding it and you can get the whole design of the flag but it is used and has worn down a bit with the creases from the origami pig. The main reason this design has evolved was the fact that the design is three design put together. The other changes have been minor, more like tweaks.
The original album cover for Fy faen uses stripes within the design, the stripes are therefore repeated here, but they are not to be kept perfectly aligns, as to show the slight unease people had with the rap culture. The flag and album cover speak to each other because of both of them having hidden designs whether if it is from the palatic sleeve or the folds within the origami.
Collage
The first change to this design was to make a smaller collage because the other one is just way too huge, this is because it needs to be mostly text and so that when it is blown up to a1 it will have some texture to it, in that way it will not be as flat.
When designing the “box” in the lower left corner there was a dilemma as to how to not make it look washed out, so using the threshold it created a different texture to the design, that it needed. When the technique was used on the whole flag it does no longer look like a collage. So that is not a possible end result.
Peer feedback to square texture
When asking about they all said that the thresholded square was the most effective and visually interesting.
When cutting the lines to the flag, there was not a set width of the stripes as to hint at the slightly unstructured life most children in immigrant families, they are nearly neat but they are slightly uneven.
The issue with the idea was initially that the origami piece is supposed to be a square but the flag is A1, the solution to this is that in the starting process of the folding there will be an additional fold to create the square, as the strip of paper would not be cut off but be apart of the design, this will hopefully create an interesting mirror effect within the folds.
Colour
When working on this the inital idea was to keep the pig in news print, but that would not hold the shape of the pig. The idea of it being pink came from the fact that pigs are pink and also the pink paper im some news apears.
