Waterstones books

This book is more reliant on pictures as the aim of the book it to inform about the different sides of gin making. the book cover is a graphically illustrated map of how it is made and it is showcased with the metallic embossing of the machines. The book is set up with two different column grid systems. on the 2x4 and 5x4 as there are two sets of layout the initial pages are mostly based on centered design or a right-aligned design but starting from the second column. the typeface selected appeals to the younger adult in that is is a clean sans serif typeface. The type does not take away from the content a lot, but it is quite big especially on the Gin: a well-traveled spirit. with the size of it, it takes a bit away from the photo on the opposing side. but in all this book follows a very strict system which does work but the pictures end up looking a bit fake and sterile, this might be because of the fact that the gin-making process had to be clean.

This book chough my eye initially because of the yellow cover but on further examination, there is a cut out of the cover showcasing a tiny element of what is yet to be revealed. this use of cutouts envokes curiosity and would most likely lead the reader to want to see what it is and learn more about the book. The use of complementary colours on the cover and inside created a nice link to the theme of the book. the use of the textured paper on the front cover is in contrast to the shiny sticker on the inside. the book utilizes contrasts throughout the entire book.

this children's book takes you through animals' different emigration patterns. all the pages focus on another animal from a different environment. and the page is dedicated to creating a scene for children, as to depict a realistic image of the animals life.

whilst browsing I wanted to find some other books that try to showcase Norway or Scandinavia. whilst browsing I fond this book that uses an odd mix of slightly inaccurate illustrations and clean typography.

The use of the small pocket sized format showcases how a small person can make an impact. this is further underlined with the use of contrast with the black and white design.
