development

It is a bit difficult to start deigning when you don't have the illustrations yet. I tried to mock up some ideas but the illustrator mostly does hands and I'm challenging her to produce all of the other senses.

this one would have a pattern over it but I think it would have to be really small so it would look sort of like dots. and almost have it more like a texture. the issue with this is that it might look like cosmetics, which is not the point.

this idea is based on using the five different senses and make custom packaging based on what your main sense problem is. the embossing would help the user to find it, so each sense would have one thing altred to them, so the one for sight would be textured and with braille, the hearing one would showcase that properly and the one for touch would be bigger writing because many people that have problems with the nerve system shakes to bolder type might help it be more legible.

taking inspiration from doctors' prescription print out labels. I made this where the content of the box is within the label. the reference to medicine might help some people in believing the product. the issue is that it looks a bit heavy on the sides. the logotype is simple and divided up, the issue with this is that many older people have an issue with the concept of dividing, so they might read snal esbe instead sensable. The braille at the bottom is needed so that it is accessible for everyone. The side of the box would showcase all of the senses on the side. I like that you can see it with the illustrations in addition to reading this would also implement the collaborative brief.

The front of it would only be embossed with the logo. so it is tactile, the side would all be embossed with the illustrated items. the back would be the only printed side. The embossed side with printed symbols will hint at how the remote would be used as there should be a plus and minus printed within I think. I talked to Julia and she said that she would have made the five senses in a bit so that I can actually get it all put together. The barcode would probably be on the one blank side.

in order to create some breakup  within the pattern but it turned out looking a bit childish and in a way like a cheap perfume bottle, this would not let the older generation to have belief in the product. I’m aware that it is blank but it all seem crowded yet naked, and my peers also thought that this one could seem a bit unprofessional for the product in mind.

Taking inspiration from prescriptions I developed this layout where the logo is to be embossed. The front has a playful reference to doctors notes, whilst keeping it all neutral. I also put in the line of age to showcase that that is not an issue. The stripped back design with the all caps type should allow it to be easy to get the idea across that it is a luxury medical item whilst getting the information out there for everyone. I should probably incorporate Braille as it is needed and it would also add some texture to the box. Aperently braile is always along the bottom of medicine boxes, and that works fine as there isn’t much there. I think I’m gonna add the illustrations on one of the short sides and maybe the barcode on the other.

I asked my peers of which had the right tone and what concept worked the best Andy here where a majorette for the red label and the last one as they said that they seem the most legit, as they reference the medical practice. I need to continue to edit them but I think I’ll end up going with the last one as it would be the one with the most contrast in terms of catering for colourblind and people with shakes as the type is as clear as it is.
