evaluation

Terms of this project I feel like I've done really poorly. I got lost in the middle of it And I had issues finding a way back. This led to a rushed design development and animation. That was not ideal as I don't know all that much animation and I should have spent longer doing each animation instead of making many, I think. The good thing is that you can see a full weeks’ worth of animations or at least designs. I feel like this quite a diverse but cohesive sense of banned in this it's not controversial as it's meant to be made for a public place for a state-funded organisation. I feel like I should have done more of the animation alongside the a and the L instead of all the other animations I wish I focus more kinetic type and worth more in-depth with some of them. I feel like the Tetris 1 is truly horrible and I wish I didn't start with animation so quickly and we should develop it all a bit more I think the concept is quite strong and I think it is used though I feel that the idea would work for a Norwegian audience and possibly international audience as well it could work for people just visiting Norway as I had an idea of making the app into different languages as well so you'd be able to see a translation what's on-screen In addition to the gameplay. The idea was to make it sort of a mix between the Pokémon go summer and you lingo but referencing retro gaming inwards to involve older people and get their kids and younger people that don't have kids to play this game with everyone I should probably also have done the app a lot better. But I feel like with what I had available to me I don't think I did all that horribly

I feel like I managed to do what the task was which was focused on a political or cultural problem and trying to find a solution to it or showcase it I feel like my brief changed a lot throughout the whole thing from nothing really to trying to explain it to people but since people had a problem with understanding it in the crit 100 difficult to get inspired otherwise. But it ended up being what it is I'm quite happy with I just feel like it could have taken a week instead of three in terms of coming up with the concept

The animations aren't good they probably do order the better things I've done but it's also some of the more complicated stuff that I've done I want to become better I think that's my main takeaway from this.

I also wish throws better map putting my stuff out there but I feel like was behind because the carpet a lot of the time and I didn't feel like showcasing horrible work or nothing at all.

I really like the non-animated ones, to be honest, especially the word search one I really like the grid, which is not a surprise And I feel like it works well I wish that I designed everything before animated a bit better.

I wanted to play off of what I tested out when we started this hosted project and focuses on the line of forgetting a language is like forgetting your mother. I used one of the animations from the other brief or to link it anyway, even though I know it doesn't have to.

I feel like I wish I could restart this project, but at the same time since we aren't able to go in and there's a lot more pressure on doing a lot more other things now I don't think I would have done all that much better to be honest if I redid it.

I don’t think I’ve done a good job scheduling my time, I’ve been helping my family in whatever fashion I could which lead me to spend less time on the project than what I usually do. I’ve done what I had to do but I feel like I should have done more. I did not manage my time well.

I feel like the poster is horrible as it isn’t what I wanted and the reason for that is that I did not scedule my time right, but at the same time I feel like we should be cut some slack because of the situation.

skissebok

i did not know what else to do with it.

How it will work test

I managed to get ahold of a projector it's not great but I wanted to test out how it looks in the dark in terms of projections paid it looks quite cool, to be honest, and if you were projected on something bigger an even surface I think it worked really quite nicely I know this is a lot of brick buildings in the cities in Norway compared to out on the countryside. There should be many buildings to choose from to get this project up and running. I was initially testing in my own bedroom but it finally ordered since my idea was to have it outside. I tested a lot of my animations and none of them looked horrible, I think they all worked when projected they look less dumb on a bigger scale. It took a while to get them set up right now because there needs to be download for there projected that I had access to which I think might be older than me, but it worked so that's fine I wanted to test out projecting the dot on the ground but I couldn't find a tall ladder and I didn't really feel comfortable climbing up in the roof during the night time.  I think these screens would be inviting for people walking past and I think it works honestly I'm kinda surprised I found myself was drawn to them and I got a couple of neighbours that came up to me and asked me what it was about which is kind of cool.

folkefest

I was initially creating this slide as a young man , but having a quick thing of what that would say about the word it might not be ideal. As the word is: Folkefest. what is quite a Norwegian word it means literally translated peoples party and it's just gathering that is nationally renowned and celebrating something together such as all national day The Olympics and many smaller gatherings That everyone in the community is invited to or can go to. so instead of the hanged man as I tested out trying to animate it and broke down . I've decided to do a word cloud and a stippled line that would fit the word within it and asking what am I for the people seeing it. I've then accumulated lots of word related to this word to get people to guess what it is. What is mainly in the focus here is all the text that is talking about the modern Norwegian language and how that works and how it's developed throughout time. It's focused a lot on how we shouldn't be afraid of outside influences within language but still keeping the culture of Norwegian.

Didn't do much development for this as i had an idea of a word cloud and mashing it with the hangman and it works quite nicely as a vertical screen as a fair few of advertising spaces and screens around Norway are vertical not necessarily horizontal this would work nicely. It could also fit nicely on a building side. I did a couple of tests but I completely forgot to take screenshots so this will be it, I've used this typeface because it's digital and it's gathering a modern Take on what this word means and what language means to us and it's something in the background so using coding Esque monotype works nicely to showcase the issue on the state as is.

markeding

This project us it's under being is sort of its own branding ask the screens would be scattered around time and place where people would be on it have the visual identity in the logo on it and people can find the hashtag online and it kind of market itself. Hopefully, people would use the hashtag and spread it and people would know it that way as well Cos it is a family event that people might do on Sundays for a more extreme one and it also gets people to explore more and utilise the space that they're living in. I feel like this would be really quite useful especially after the pandemic that people explore the home countries a bit more or people might be tired of it, to be honest, but then people from other places might want to explore it and if the app was reversible so you could have it in whatever language and have it translated on your screen it worked quite nicely. The would-be an Instagram I think to update people on the weekly words and also some of the best images of people interacting with it. But I don't think I want it over the top if she's going to be a chill one so people don't get bombarded with images. As I did some talking to some of my mates and they all if a company is too aggressive in their social media they might unfollow it instead of appreciating what it's about. This could also be a project that could be translated to wherever CAS every language has issues with mixing languages of getting words or just not using them anymore and I feel like a project like this could revive languages innocence and it could be adopted to having a physical copy and a printed magazine each week Sort of like a newsstand thing maybe within the newspaper. I feel like the logo simple in itself so it could be translated to whatever and it also showcases the whole word of it if you really want it to look into it excessively. I feel like the use of the hashtag is just a common thing that people do What I could have done is possibly added QR code for a possible app website but also people have Android or iPhone or Windows Phone so it's quite difficult to actually do that but I feel like it is obvious at least through the Instagram as people might search it there with the hashtag and then find the Instagram people aren't dumb I believe in them.

sporenstreks

in school, we always played hangman when we had time left over kisses slightly educational it's about language and finding new words or finding our word. Using hangman for this would work quite nicely, acid can be a communal thing so everyone nearby gets to pick a letter on their phone. And taking turns to find the word. Since it's quite a tedious and not our high intensity of again have added a lot of text at the bottom, that would be scrolling if I were to animate it so you would scroll through it and at the bottom it is the logo and the hashtag. The typeface is it typewriter-like, slab serif typeface it references old typewriters and quite traditional games. I initially tried to animate it but I couldn't get the drawing of the hangman to work the way that I wanted to, the chalk writing tutorial that I found was only for type and it's the one that I use for handwriting but I couldn't get it to work for this and I don't know why. I think I'll just have it be what it is I'm just moving on because I can't spend that much time on this is not the most central thing and just needed to work together and also get the concept out there.

I did a quick just drawing of a stick man on paper and photographed it and traced it, I feel like it makes it more attainable but I just have an image in my head of possibly like a robot-like thing instead but it works to demonstrate what it would be like and also it's a good contrast to the typeface innocence even though it's a typewriter typeface I quite over school it's quite clean.

Since this is such a standstill game there's so much text and it's a full text from a researcher on why language dies out and what leads to it in quite a lot of detail. This one is quite simple And I not quite happy with it to be honest but it works with the contrast of the word is it quiet hold where that's rarely used anymore which is sporenstrreks and it means as quickly as possible without rushing. With a possible animation of this, you just get crossed out the lattice that people have guessed and the stick man and the scrolling text underneath it. I feel like this one could be projected onto a side of a building.

subsekvent

Subsekevnt is it word the means doing something without any way of redoing it. It's essentially a word for “set in stone”. This concept is showcased in the game minesweeper acids pretty much based on charms and if you pick the wrong square you are dead. The word would be shown after a win or loss in the base of it it's the word would be scattered across each vertical the letter in that sequence of the word would be in that column so the first letter would be in the first vertical column. The lettuce would also be the biggest winnings when you click it so would be the biggest explosion without exploding you. There's also a simple explanation of the word she knows how to put it together. Forward the factual text in this one it's talking about dying languages, which is reflected in the game, as many languages dying every year and it's kind of referencing one of my initial ideas with the map. The game is at the bottom of the screen here cause I feel like it's quite important to showcase the dying languages, and the description of it leads you to believe that you have to read it before you play it. I quite like the look of this it is a vertical instead of the horizontal screen yet again. I based the type first and foremost on something legible and digital so I chose a monotype for the body text. in terms of the game, I've completely copied that type that is on the minesweeper in terms of the points as they use a digital Clock typeface And I just made that quite simply with a couple of lines. And I've also used the 8-bit typeface to reference the history of the game. I made the grid for the game allot more modern than the original without any shadow and just simple lines as it should go better with the rest of the design as none of it is all that detailed.

I didn't make any sketches of this layout as I decided I wanted to be as simple as possible And I want it to text to be waited on top so just made sense to have the square grid of the game at the bottom, I don't feel like it's necessary to overthink it too much As for this screen I want the focus on the text, not the game.

omstendeligheter

Seeing as this project is all based around language, I wanted to have one of the games be a word such so you'd find lost forgotten words within it. I found this website that would create this layout of the words that I've written in, the issue is that it doesn't take the Norwegian letters. So I'd have to fill it in afterwards and find them but this way it be random and it needed to be that. I wrote in 24 words that you'd have to find one of those 24 words is the keyword for this one and the description of it is at the bottom initially I had it written down at the bottom but I found it that way too easy so it's now hidden and he'd have to write it into the app to get the word right.

I was playing around with the layout a tiny bit, I decided to make it a bit easier for the user And I added a count of how many words they'd found at the top right of the word search I also had to create the grid and write in all the words and letters from the random word search website. I think the look of it is quite nice it feels sort of school like but it's still like what could it be. I'll just do some simple instructions for it that says find all the words and then the counter and alongside it should be easy to figure out what you need to do I initially test out the spacing I'd need to fit all the words in it took a bit of time but I figured it out and also made a grid to make sure that it's all aligned. I thought of tracing a slight animation where you get like crossed out the words that you find but I feel like making it a bit more difficult would be quite fun as it could be a family thing in the like you can point it out.

The same as all the other ones I've added the hashtag #languagehunt as well as the logo to make it obvious that this is what it is.

This informational text goes into why your language can be forgotten and describes if you were to move abroad marry someone from there you both know that language the likelihood of you teaching your kids your language is limited. I know this because my cousins are half Norwegian half British they went to a British school and they didn't learn Norwegian even though their mum was Norwegian until they were about 10. Neither I or my sister were able to speak to them until we learned English at the age of 8 and that's limited you don't know much at that point. We've therefore not had many relationships with them until we've gotten older. So I see how this is an issue and even though they lived in Norway the dad refused to learn Norwegian so they never spoke Norwegian at home. But this just showcases that teaching your kids a language that just you know when the household can be tricky and you probably wouldn't do it,, to be honest, this test text just puts it into the perspective of how you probably be about it. Combining this text with all of the other ones really paints a picture on why languages die out and what you can do to solve it and the main part is teach your kids and use it all the teachers to someone else it doesn't have to be your kids but your partner your friends someone but the problem is that people don't really want to learn a new language they don't care it's too much effort. But also I'd be uncomfortable being with someone and they be able to talk about me without me knowing or not being in on a joke. My grandad, he asked Spanish girlfriend she doesn't know any Norwegian and none of us know Spanish well enough to keep conversation it is really quite difficult for her in family gatherings. I know waffling on now but I found the need to learn a language is quite important but also keeping your own What I learned throughout this project is that you wouldn't forget your native language really at least not fully you might forget some of it but you always have your language somewhere. But it's just a matter of keeping it moving forward in the younger generations or bigger crowds just more people.

Ildsjel

Seeing as Pacman is such a big part of retro gaming it would not be right and leave it out, especially when this word ildsjel fits perfectly with the purpose of the Pacman character. Ildsjel, Means an individual in a community that puts everything in to do the collective good of the community such as cleaning up or organising events. Packman dedicates his life essentially to cleaning up this board. I have personalised the board to say ildsjel in the borders of it and it's difficult to read initially but once you've cleaned it's quite easy. The word would, therefore, be hidden within the game but still visible all the time. I initially made the game in colours, but the rest of the screens are in black and white with one colour sorry did it too black and white design as he still sees the elements it's not really important to have the colour differences. I spend most of my time creating the grid and getting it all to fit inside and then animating 15 seconds at a time in the frame by frame animation. It took so long. I figured out a way to make the word makes sense but not the obvious, and you kinda have to work for it to understand what you were after even though there's a clue underneath the Route. I made animation so it showcases start screen flickering 1st and then started playing coz you can have to log into it and then people who start reading the text before the game you get the description of the word she would be could be able to guess it. This has been such pain I initially didn't think I'd animate it but I got it in my head that I could do it so hey we are, it's not great And I spent I think about 7 hours just animating everything frame by frame And I don't think it's good enough for the time spent on it, to be honest.

I feel like I could have done better, I somewhat wished that I spend more time developing a few screens instead of creating broad view of what the whole week would be like. Awesome learning whilst ago here I don't know that much about animation but I do still want to learn. I very much prefer the black and white design too as it stands out from the original design of Pacman
