Evaluation board

In the brief it stated that the posters are to explore the idea of contemporary graphic design in a public space, you also have to take it in mind the nature of the brief.

In this poster series, there are no images directly related to rape the posters are focused on creating an uncomfortable feeling and making the viewer feel a bit wary of the posters. This has been done so that the posters can be posted up in a public without scaring kids or hurting victims. The quote used in the type and image is large enough so it does not scream out rape or playing the victim card, that would be easy. Some of the initial ideas are more obvious in that they use flowers, in order to explore the theme from a different angle those ideas were discarded. This way of approaching the theme challenges the idea of what the theme should be portrayed as. The use of high contrast elements creates a cohesive design aesthetic to the posters.

From the peer feedback, there was some confusion on what the image is but after it was understandable. They said that the image only design made them slightly uncomfortable which works in favor of the design. The other feedback is that the design is ambiguous, as it does not have the most obvious meaning. This is what was intended so that is not a problem with the design. They also said that this could either draw the audience in as it is intriguing, or they could simply walk by and ignore it as they don´t understand it straight away. that could be a problem but the design is loud enough so that that would not happen, rather have people be intrigued. Their eyes were drawn to the white patch, which is not where my eye goes but it is not a problem, it does make sense that the eye moves to the part that has the highest contrast.

From the feedback from the percent, people said that the type in the background creates an interesting texture. someone else was wondering if it would be legible when printed, and it is difficult to read because the colour of the type does allow for that much contrast but you should be able to read it at some parts. They said that the Morse code worked well with the design as a whole. and it continued the design from the other one. They said that it was a clever idea, with a clean grid.

The feedback for the type and image revolved mostly about where the distress signal looks like a stubby exclamation mark which is also a way of broadcasting your voice so it is not the worst thing for people to believe it is. It is not ideal but at the same, it is a bit of an obscure distress signal. They say that it looked like someone in distress telling the story, because of the tight kerning and leading. The only thing was that they said that it could have been pushed a bit further, that would be interesting as it would challenge the viewer even more in the terms of the legibility. they also suggested that the distress signal could be turned on its side as to show that it is a distress signal and not an exclamation mark. That could be a possible edit as it is easy to miss interpret

The main problem with the designs is the theme as it is difficult to work with as you have to keep in mind that this is meant to be shown in public. The obvious image would be a girl alone or the actual event.

This design should have developed better as it should have been done in some other medias. Such as 3d, collage and many more it should have been done so that there was a broader range of medias. The text poster is a bit annoying to look at which as the point but.
