The way this is intended to express the theme is by creating quite an uncomfortable image. It derives its impact through its contrasting elements in the form of the Morse code and the splatter. The visual language used is based on the idea of that order meets chaos. The poster aims to convey the unstable life many have after such a traumatic event such as the theme suggests, by using unsettling images in the terms of them not being quite what it is or what it is meant to be.
The purpose of this poster is to create intrigue and discomfort and inform people if they are interested in understanding it. This poster is mainly based on the Russe celebration because there are quite a lot of reports that stem from that time of the year.
In the silent critique most, people said that the design was quite ambiguous as they might not make that much sense because of the handling of the subject. The feedback on this one was that it was quite dark and a bit difficult to understand but they mostly got the uneasy feeling that the design is aiming to achieve. Some people said that it reminded them of a struggle which is a close association to the theme, they understood the idea of it without being certain of what exactly the theme is. The design is quite abstract as a whole and it achieves that it is meant to, and if you are interested in learning more you can use the QR code and be more informed.
The feedback also said that the poster could evoke sympathy or nether as it is that ambiguous and a bit difficult to understand. The reason for the ambiguity is that this is a difficult topic to handle and in order to have an impact yet not be explicit or offensive there is needed some level of ambiguity.
the image and pattern are all full bleed to have a bigger impact. The design is based on being centered but with the element of the hand-drawn image, it is slightly off balance. The slight uneven nature of the image makes a bigger contrast to the straight and purely geometric pattern of the Morse code.
The use of the centered text and image creates a slight balance to it as the type created a cluster. The adjustments of the kerning and leading make the otherwise legible typeface slightly illegible, but still readable. The even weight of the sans-serif type creates organized chaos with the adjustments made with leading and kerning.
The aim of this poster is to showcase this real story told by Tanja (43). These posters are meant to showcase is that this is an issue and how many it affects. Norway is said to be one of the best places to live in terms of happiness and wellbeing but with the lack of proper laws, most rape victims do not bother with reporting the case as it is unlikely that the perpetrator would be prosecuted. such as in this case where she ended up almost denying that it happened in order to fake a normal structured life. The text is also obscured by the symbol, so you have to interpret the text found underneath this is aimed to show how the Politician brushes over the issue and moves on to other problems. The use of this quote is used as to evoke sympathy by referring to a real event that is not that far away from anyone’s life.
In the critique, most people understood the underlying theme and they said that they felt stressed out reading the text which works as the idea was to make the typography feel rushed and cramped. Someone else said that it felt like someone seemed to be screaming out for help but no one was listening witch is quite fitting. The feedback said that the story was showcased quite clearly because of the type used, and the use of kerning made it more of a pressing problem. all of this is what it was aimed at achieving. The only change they said was that they would like the quote reference the distress signal, but that would not work out organically because of the obscurity of the signal.
This poster aims to showcase some of the many problems with the judicial system. this one is based on the fact found in the poster itself, that 10 % of the Norwegian population has experienced some form of rape. That is why the typeface is in a point 10 size. The typeface used is Helvetica because of its neutral personality and many of the victims talk about how their personality almost despaired afterward. The use of the statistics is used in order to make the design more clinical and straight forward. The use of the long line length is so that you are not willing to continue reading as it would hurt your eyes and you will become unfocused whilst reading. The type has more of a pattern effect as it is barely legible when you go close.
The issue yet again is to work around the issue whilst still creating interest. This is done with a clear focal point with the pattern that the Helvetica creates in the background. This design is based on a concrete fact that is not that legible as they are hidden and forgotten.
This design is a developed version of the one in the critique, but in the critique, people said that the theme was not that clear, but the Morse code suggested danger. Other said that they believed that the Morse code needed to be deciphered in order to be understood as it held a hidden meaning, which is right and understandable. The other feedback was that they all like nicely together with the consistent dark background with the uncomfortable and a bit annoying imagery.
