initial cover ideas:
for this cover idea, I drew on inspiration from den Norske husflid lags logo the leaded type in the black box is a nod to the traditional union founded in 1910 as a reference to the time before the occupation. The black square draws your eye to the "dark past" which is what this book is aiming to do in it self.
This idea for teh cover is based on having the type trying to cover up the dark past by simply being on top of it, this is meant to fail as the filled back square draws you in and you read the title second. The sans serif is chosen as a modern version of the type used in GPS, and other hiking equipment. the clean design works well within the Scandinavian style of design.

This design is in refrence to one of the few written publications written about Folehavna. it is quite boring and centered with the white background. The colour green is colour picked from one of the photos. the design itself is anonymous and does litte out of itself as it is a quite conventional placement.
as to have some idea of what I could do with this book, this iteration of the book came to be. it is based on a simple grid system 5 x 8. the concept is based around the fact that the nazi history of Norway is usually pushed under the rug whereas the resistance is amped up. Therefore will the book consists of bigger and bigger images and less and less text per page. As the book goes past the 1940s into the hidden treasure it is today, the text gets more positive and there is less focus on the destruction put upon the minorities in ww2. the book would work with a gradient so the first images from today would have a lower saturation asto make it fade naturally, and lull you into a comfortable state.
The placement of the images switches from top right-aligned photos, left-aligned text, into right-aligned text and left-aligned text when the switch from the new to the old, as to showcase the type there where it talks about nature and great hiking opportunities.
this design is probably not the more conceptually strong but the idea of hiding could work just by printing black on black paper, or white or gray on white paper. so that you would have to work to get to the real information. this is derived from the difficulty I had whilst researching as there is next to no information about the fort or the peninsula.
