embossing

the idea for the embossing on the front cover is derived from the topography of Folehavna, but simplified, so that it can be cut out of the card. The creation is built up by up to six layers to create a contrast to emulate the mounts.

The tests were done on bfk Rives gray tint, the paper is tactile and has a natural feel to it, but if this is to be done it should be done with homemade paper using some of the plants from Folehavna, or here depending on how they are to get out of my notebook. The cover is embossed with the topography running across all of it and covering it up completely so that the entire cover is textured from back to front. The inside of the cover has the debossed texture which should be exposed so that you get a clearer idea of the area when you open the book. The sides are ripped instead to having blunt trim as to showcase the rural nature of Folehavna.

The other embossing attempt was done in such a way that the embossing only covers half of the sheet as to emulate the skyline, whilst using the initial design. this way you have a focused embossing on the botton of the page so you feel it when you hold the book.

This attempt was using the white colour stock, the effect of the emulation of the stone is lost a bit as Folehavna is not that clean. The use of the debossing tecneques make it seem like it is a bout a lake or something with a lot of depth, when it is not.
