Studio task week 1- Exploring the typefaces

I took one of my typefaces that I thought had protentional and modified a bit so that I actually could make a typeface with it. I made my rules based on the original idea and decided to go for a font consisting of serifs, apex, and stems. I did this because it made an interesting effect on the type. I have no rounded shapes at all, it is a very shapeless font. But with that it requires a bit of imagination, to understand the concept. I really enjoy that type of sculptural minimalist font. As you can see by my other typefaces from this week. But since this week is about experimentation I figured why not go for it. This font would need quite a lot of spacing.

This typeface is inspired by one of my favorite Grotesk fonts called “Gotham” it has all straight lines and has a minimalist expression to it. My typeface is not perfect, but I think I could do a lot with it.
Bradford Ulrich is quite inspiring, and my work is definitely influenced by his minimalist typeface. it has a slightly playful vibe over the font, with a sense of maturity over it all. It is so simple that it is so incredibly easy to slightly miss and lose the letters within the typeface.

I started with thinking about what do you really need from a typeface? I figured that you could remove quite a lot form it, but it needs some familiarity with it. That is why I chose to use serifs as a way to recognize the shapes that otherwise only would be straight lines in my design. I have chosen to only use vertical lines so some of the Serifs that could be there are not. It might also clutter the typeface a bit.

I think this typeface has potential to be great, not for a normal reading font but for something a bit more editorial. I made the type a bit slimmer so that it would not take up that much more space, but ´m not sure that was the right call, I need to continue the process for a little bit longer.
