Book initial ideas

Diagram
This design is based on a mind map that I made to link the different themes and chapters within the book. The lines have been sown in red thread to hint at the left-wing views that Jones has like a red thread throughout the book. The lines show how involved everything is with each other both in the book and in real life. Diagram used as the design is not that alike a mind map, but that way it is not as obvious.
The typography is based on the idea of a mind map. The text is aligned to the lines within the diagram as a hint at that the design is based on a mind-map.

This design is based on the seating chart of the parliament seating. The back cover uses the design from the cover and to resemble law paragraphs. The concept revolves around the politics which is the main theme throughout the book.

3D

This design is based on the power theme throughout the book. The cardboard is to represent weak social status the establishment has in the public eye at the moment.
The lighting is based on the first line of the book: Britain’s Establishment is stripped naked and, with no warning, shoved onto a stage. The shadows show the everlasting threat/ upper hand the establishment has over the public, even if it is made of cardboard.  The shadow is to represent the power that the establishment has, and on the back, there is a shadow watching over you, the looming shadow is a way to show big brother and the control.

Modified object

The spades with in the deck of cards is the power card the king specifically. The ripped king is to represent the broken power system that Jones talks about in the book. The card is placed to the right as to show the right-wing and the typography is placed to the left to show where Jones stands in the political system.

In this design, the king has taken his hand of his heart, this is to represent the lack of honesty within the establishment. The king of hearts is known as the suicide king and is related to self-destruction. It is also related to viewing yourself as literally or figuratively selfish and worthless causes.  This design is based on the king taking his hand off his heart, seeing as holding you over your heart is a symbol of honesty and trustworthiness.

Typography
This design is based on overpowering typography as the establishment has an overarching power over the British population. In this design, everything is to be replicating buildings.
the texture should probably be done a bit differently. not sure how yet though. The typeface is kept simple and modern as to show the modern view on politics that Jones has.

This design is based on the intrusion the establishment has on the British public, as they always have a part in the play. The idea is that you can partly see it but it is not quite as visible as it should be for it to feel safe, as you don't really see the part it plays. This is something that Jones talks about in his book. The ever-present threat of being controlled but not really being able to see where it comes from. The rest of the typography is much more readable and this design puts weight on how they got away with it instead of the establishment. the problem with this is that i looks a bit too much like a horror book or cime, it should probably be holes insead or dents.

This design is based on a layout book design. The idea is that the text that is "highlighted" is the most important part, as to hint at school revision, where you would highlight the important bits. This fits within the theme as the book is a political commentary book, and when you study politics there are a lot of complicated things to remember and learn so high lighting is an important part of that. The text used on the cover is the first couple sentences in the book, it sets the tone of the book, as the first sentences should. The red colour is to showcase the left wing views that Jones has on the topics discussed within the book.
