At the start of the day, I thought that we would be able to have a typeface close to ready but the typefaces made were sculptural and/or illegible. We had discussed and agreed that we were to make a simple sans serif typeface but they did not make them and they did not even choose who to make the logotype and typeface, so this is not going well... it also seems like everyone goes to me when making a decision instead of firstly discussing it with their partner and them bring it up to the group instead of going to me............. at the end of the day the typeface was not yet done either so we had to expose the screens with the design we had.
I did some development with altering the size of the stippled pattern and the alignment of the address and the description.
In order to try to use some more of the elements in the design but with this design it lost some of the whimsy of the idea so I put it aside. I was still waiting for the typeface so I wanted to see how that would actually fit within the design. It is quite difficult when you are not sure as to the final design of the typeface would fit in as they were still sculptural at this point even when I referred to our outlined ideas, which seemed to be ignored.
As to let loose a bit I decided to play with the idea that I had for the logotype and use that to create a new poster. I cut up the typeface Futura and used a circle instead of the o's. I incorporated some hand made elements such as the map and some scribbles. The design uses repetition to achieve a cohesive yet playful design reminiscent of the style of treasure maps. the use of the circles creates a hierarchy in that it leads your eyes to the type and title.
When I printed out the poster the scribbled thing underneath the blue circle looked messy and a bit dirty and that had to be removed. also Pat said that the line scribble line should be repeated as to continue the theme of the repeated patterns. Overall we seemed to agree that we should go for this idea.
I had already stripped and coated a screen so I sent Sam to the print room to ready another screenprint. and I printed out the positives so that we could print on Wednesday.
when I got back home after exposing and coating the screen I got a message from Vanessa where she expressed concern over the fact that the type had not been on the poster, something that it could have been if they had just made a simple typeface that we could actually use but it was way to late about five hours late. o that will just be the way it is.
