What makes a book?

layout, bind...

perfect bound.
pocketbook it is conventional.
made to be mass-produced with the cheap print as the cover is a yellow card with black and white printed on it.
it is all left-aligned.
the type is in a weird mix with a digital and clean modern type.
the cover showcases the wall in the l in the title
it is not neatly bound as there are some miss-aligned elements.
It has a clear idea of the fact that it is showcasing people's stories and it is not neseseraly a traditional history book.
there are only page numbers on every other page.
there is a map inside that would help people visualize it.
the people on the cover showcase the society in east Germany where anyone would rat you out to the authorities if you went against the regime.
the book tells different stories for the pre and post east Germany and the yellow colour is such a stark contrast to the black and white photo.
the type does not make sense from the contents as Helvetica is a swiss typeface it would make more sense to take inspiration from Russian typography.
the colour does not make sense as yellow does not actually relate the theme.
If I would do this book id spend some time researching the theme and translate the book into some visual language using the blue from the stasil colours.
the book just needs some more thought into it.

matte cover with embossed logo with a shine to it.
nike logo grabs your attention with the colour and centered placement.
you don't really see the author's name because of the relation between the title and logo.
the book is forcing you to read it from the start because of the lack of a contents page.
it is quite bold in that all of the contents are centered which makes sense sort of because it is about branding.
it is quite contemporary but it would stand out more if it were to be in a different colour.
the rag on the inside is quite dramatic.
would be better as a coffee table book
